Nearly everyone has a different conception of how best to prepare for a test, whether it’s a major, life-changing examination for entrance into a particular institution or field or a simple quiz with consequences of a much more lighthearted nature. The Australian citizenship test falls somewhere in between, and there are numerous ideas about how those hoping to become new Australian citizens should prepare for the exam. Most people, however, would agree that one of the wisest elements that can be incorporated into any test preparation scheme is the use of practice tests. While simply reading and reviewing the information contained in the associated booklet on Australian citizenship can form a solid foundation for acquiring the knowledge necessary to pass the test, retaining this knowledge and being able to conceptualize it in such a way as to fit the requirements of various types of questions is the key to getting a great score, and practice tests help studious learners accomplish precisely this goal.
Practice tests can, in theory, be created alone, by going through the material that the test will cover and coming up with sets of questions that seem likely to appear on the test. This process is prone to being time consuming, however, and it may be difficult to challenge oneself with questions for which the answers aren’t known. As a convenient alternative, test takers can invest in any number of available study aids that include practice exams as part of their tool kit. While some pre-made practice tests are bound to be more accurate than others, those who use these tools are bound to have a more broad sense of the information they’ll need to know, and the experience of answering many questions in multiple choice format, as the questions will appear on the test, can prepare the mind for the types of tasks it will need to perform on testing day.
Many available study aids include practice tests that have a remarkable number of questions included, in an attempt to cover as much vital material as possible. Certainly, taking several practice tests in an attempt to raise a score in anticipation of the live exam is a good way to get prepared, but it should also be noted that taking too many tests ñor taking multiple tests in a single sitting– can actually have adverse consequences. The memorization process that takes place when practice tests are completed can result in a loss of understanding of the actual meaning of questions and answers over time if performed in excessive repetition. Taking small breaks between practice tests, or limiting oneself to a few tests each day, can help prevent issues that arise from ìover-studying.
Adding practice tests to any Australian citizenship exam preparation plan will strengthen chances of receiving a passing score, in turn opening wide the door to embracing life as a true Australian.
