Hi sir/madem i am ayaz i need a new citizen my home country is very derty i am coming to australia but i am a poor man i have no created card i am very confuse in our home country please help me.
I think that the test should outline very general aspects of Australian coulture and people. Basically, what is right and what is wrong to do here in Australia. Currently, some of the questions are very specific, maybe a little bit too much. In my opinion, as long as you can speak English and can in any way or form contribute to this society; and ofcourse show respect to others - you should be able to become an Australian citizen.
is not difficult when you read the book i think is much easier than last year,,,is wonderfull to know about the australia make you feel good to be part of it ...i agreed, to those who want to be australian citizenship u must take the test to testify yourself that you are welcome to stay long on this country...
because it is like driving a car you study and take you test for 30 minutes and after that it does not matter any more it is the same with the citizenship test if every one is realy hounest about it
It's just so important for poeple who want to be a part of this beautifull country shoud know the values and culture that Australians are determining. I will become a real Australia next year and I am so happy that I can come this far and glad that Australian are so kind to me. Thanks Australia and Australians, expecially those Native Autralians.
I was born here, I am a patriot, the whole point of Australia is to be multicultural, we hardly have a history, a history many of us aren't proud of. I was born in Australia which automatically made me a citizen but was I drilled with ridiculus questions of our nations origins? no. This test and the information that the people need to learn to become "Australian" is very un-australian, saying that just because you don't know certain things about us mean you can't join us, we are a nation built from other nations yet we are rejecting them.
I agree with you Josh, as long as people know what is right and what is wrong here in Australia and can in any way or form contribute to this society; they should be allowed to become an Australian citizen.
I haven't taken it personally, but from speaking to people who have, it is set at the right level. I would suggest however that some people would really struggle.
I want to do the citizen test because i want to become the Australia population, so i hope the you will understand at me and give me the appointment to do the test.
It is only up to the Australian people to decide what is suitable and fair to the immigrants. Australian people elects a Parliament; whoever wins, forms a Government; the Government decides that there will be a test, that means, Australians have decided so.
Wuat about those who cannot elect their parliament, those under 18, who don't get a say? We are the newest generation of Australians and we should be deciding, not previous generations who still who racist grudges.
This is very good because of helping you to know about history and culture of Australia country that you choose to live and be proud of.
The more you know about the country you live the better outcome you get.
please go to sydney any boys high school and get tother
all year 10 students and ask them to pass this test.
this result will show australian gov to decide what is right and what is wrong.
I beleive that if you have lived in the country for a certain amount of years, and have not broken the law, paid your taxes, and not asked any thing from the goverment, plus employ Australians, you should be given some leeway.
i was born in australia,i took the test for fun(online) i knew every answer,so don't say people who are born in Australia know nothing about Australia-its an insult!
coming from NZ one would think we know as much about Australia as the Australians themselves. How wrong I am. I,ve read through the life in Australia publication and found how rich in culture and history the country is. Not forgetting of course the vast areas that are recorded in each State. So along with the publication and the test I have just completed, I have realised I have only just touch the tip of the history and its modern day activitys of this great country. Looking forward to more information
some questions are created just to make people stress and waist time. what is difference between Arthur Philips and Arthur Philip. this time could be spent taking care of children or volontire work dear sir/ madam
yeah its alrite but i think it must be bit easier because who want to apply for australian citizenship they obviously belong to some other countries and its hard to know aout all these things in such a sort time of period. I agree with the general knowledge test but must be little bit easier .
Hi
Obviously I'm a newbie here. I found this site through google search and I found this forum interesting so I drop by.
Thanks for welcoming me in advance!
some questions r really tough.even Australians dont know much about politics then forget about outsiders.test should be just the basics not about wat happened 200years before....
I think ALL citizens should sit this - including Australians born here. I think thousands of them woulf fail it. And are Aboriginals expected to take this test? It is fine having this test about a potential citixen's knowledge of Australia, but surely it should be something ALL Aussies partcipate in at some point?
I feel its very unfair as I have asked many Australians about these questions, and none of them know the answere either. Its good to test but it should be made more easier.
I have Test on next 2nd of Dec 2009 , still not sure yet , those questions are driving me nuts , complete training test questions for $35? WOW , you are eating me ,well if i didn't make it I'll try for $35 then . I really want to passed , God help me.
The test is like something from a 5th grade test. Most Australian's will not know a lot of these questions and whether an immigrant knows them does not nessecarily make them any more or less 'Australian'.
I have been in australia as a permaent resident for 28 years. I feel that I have paid my taxes all tis time and feel I should not have to take the test just so I can vote.
its good to know about our beautiful country and to learn about it but it should be easier cause when you open the book and read u just get confused of all the information....and the people who lived and born in australia dont know the history of it.... i think its good idea to do it in tafe or as a free course and do test and get it .....much easier and we learn more.
Why wouldn't people want to learn English? English language is very important and beneficial mainly to us - migrants. Also, the more we know about the country we live in the better it is for us. If people want to move to Australia they shouldn't expect that others will look after them forever. I mean healthy and able to learn people.
totally agree with Vera! This is our new home, why trying so desperately to pretend as if we never left? and I think there is no discrimination in asking new citizens to comply with certain rules. After all, Australian government represents Australians who were here BEFORE us, and they have right to decide what kind of people they want and what these people must be able to do or to know.
It is not meant to ensure that somebody is loyal. It is meant to keep people who refuse to assimilate (by not speaking English, for example), OUT of Australian citizenship. Too many people are now talking about how they have right to this and that. They come to a foreign country and pretend to speak their language and so on. Nobody should be given an Australian passport if they can't answer a couple of very simple questions in English, and about the country that have them everything they wanted.
we been here more then 10 years, all of us helped Australia built much better and multiculture then before and we are tax payer so Australia is our home why do we need a test ?
I think it is good to have a citizenship test, so people are do like to becoming a citizenship know and understand about the country, also supporting a good all good only when they become a citizenship in the country
Those who wish to come into our country seeking refuge or a better lifestyle should be allowed to. It is unfair to deny people because they cannot answer a few stupid questions.
i did my test 3 times and i didnt pass :) i dont know what was wrong and i had read bookabout 500 times and now they changing it to harder that what i heard from ppl *GOD BLESS JOHN HOWARD* i know that we have to learn about our new country but not in this way it should be better and my husband born in australia and he cant answer half of them so how can i came from overseas and do this?!?!?! i'm not complainning bout anything but plz make it easy for us and FREE!!!!!! why should we pay $250 to get a citizen it should be free from goverment!!thanks
It should be based around or ways, laws and culture in todays society. There should be test about the fuelncy of their english, and their intentions of living style for them and their children. Don't make them change their ways but make sure they will accept ours.
I have been living and working in this country for close to 20yrs. I think that if someone has been here for 15+ yrs and has been working, paying taxes and haven't been in any trouble at all, shouldn't have to do this test and be given the option of automatic citizenship.
cheers
I don't think it is the Citizenship test that determines a good Australian citizen. it was already hard enough to get the permanent residency in Australia. I think I have been already tested as a moral Citizen of Australia when I tried to get the visa. Practically, it takes people to get the citizenship for decades and those who have been in Australia over that many years would already have learned and experienced about Australia and its culture. Also, it is not easy for the people to go to the test locations as they have to sit on a test in a certain place. I think the test should be able to be done in, for example, the local Service Tasmania or any Medicare centres. I am in Ulverstone and it is very hard for me take the test regularly as I have to travel very far. And that affects my work shift too.
Agree with you when it comes to the PR, you really do have to show everything about yourself. I have been here for 8 years now and I am about to take the test. Interestingly enough, I can't always score 100%, hence it tells me that if living here (both working & studing) for so many years is insufficient to get a perfect score, then maybe the test is a bit too much.
I love the idea - great. All people interested staying in this country MUST agree to stay here under the terms and conditions of the contry. If you do not like it - stay where you are.
People that can not speak English, should not be allowed to become residents.
most people have already lived in australia for years and class themselves aussies, why have a test,we are going to live here anyway.what about the people who dont speak english is this fair.
Those people who don't speak English should not be allowed to be citizens of Australia. I think a sound knowledge of English is the minimum you can expect from someone who wants to live in an English-speaking country.
The language used should be simple to cater for people who have not had the opportunity to be schooled in their country of origin. ESL teachers need to be consulted when revising the test
I've been an Aussie for 30+ years and I didn't score 100% ... which means the test is too hard. For a start, I easily *misread* one of the questions ... will you nix my citizenship because I didn't read the question correctly? And I'm an English speaker from birth -- it was just a mistake. Imagine how rough this is going to be on "the new chum" to whom "the language of Milton and the Bible," to quote G.B. Shaw, is his/her second or third language! Get real people -- have the test, but make it simpler.
I think to make the test a condition of becoming an Australian is unfair. I'm Australian born and I can't pass the test probably because I have no interest in politics or some of the other subjects. A new Australian will eventually learn what has to be known to live here why make it a condition that he or she learns what amounts to useless information.
I dont believe the test is needed in all cases. I have lived in Australia for 32years and think I should be exempt from taking the test. I tried to apply for citizenship (prior to the test) online but I was not recognized as being in Australia. Even though I had traveled on a passport back and forth over the years and been paying taxes for the 32 years living in Australia.
But they have done at least 12 years of Australian education and have learned about things those haven't even heard of who have to take the test. If one wants to become an Australian citizen, one should follow the rules and meet the requirements, not complain. After all, noone asked them to be here, they want to come and live here.
Why would Australians need to know the answers? It's their country! They didn't CHOOSE to become Australians. People who CHOOSE Australia as a place to live should not complain that they have to know things that the locals don't know.
the citizenship test its a right dicision of the government to give gain everyone about the ethnic.culture.politic.especially the privillage to all citizen a become a voter
i think the test hould be a bit more simple because people who are born in australia dont know half the answers to the questions that are been asked in the test i think the test should be changed and make it 10 questions mean in the end you are bound to to pass the test if you put your time and effort into it but after what?in the end a hopefully you will get ur australian citinzenship . what other country has these tests to get a citeezship???i think they should be no test
there neva was a test before... so i think having a test is good, but it should not be so hard.
who is going to rememba these questions later? i bet not even born australian know the nswers of these questions.
It would be fairer if Australians knew the answers to the questions other people from different lands are supposed to know.
Do not mind learning about Australia but at least ensure questions are based on more laws, lifestyle etc.
I am a born and bred Australian having only been outside my country once. I have been trying to pass the citizenship test but have failed. How are new immigrants supposed to know questions about our government system that I have never heard of myself. I am well educated but now it seems I know very little.
yes its rely good idea
am happy that i had exam to get my citizen , cause i learn many thing that i don't know before and i think that is important to now for every resident of Australia. Good luck for all. samia
New CITIZENSHIP book ismore intersting then old one.It is not confusing about when they happend. We love to know about aus &their belive, but not condistionally.
Yes its a good idea if you have just moved to Australia. I sat the test last year I am 51 years old and have lived here since I was 5 years of age most of my life. I thought it was ridiculous as all my schooling was here and I married and had children here.
it tests about ur understanding of english literacy more than ur knowledge of australian culture.I have studied in australia for five years (yr9 to uni) n i still didn't understand some of the critical words that appeared on the questions.
People who have no knowledge of english before they arrived in Australia. they certainly would feel difficult to do the test even if they have done their 400 hr english training.
My recommendation is to simplify questions (ways of questioning). Don't use too many sophisticated vocabularies.
Thanks very much.
Of course I agree with the test but the first thing should be allegance to Queen and country and if anyone is found to break that they should be Jailed or automatically Deported from Australia and or Both. No second chance or Questions Asked. Only the best of People are good enough for Australia.
Australia is so becoming a republic and leaving the commonwealth, the queen is just a public figure now.
And you ideals are moronic, only the best of people are good enough from australia? Thats why this country was founded on convicts? Where Brtain decided to send criminals? Yes, I can see the connection.. the best of Criminals are good enough for Australia?
Whatever happened then, happened then. Now the situation has changed. We don't take any more convicts, do we? And we can set standards for what kind of people we want. We are already doing it by having an skilled immigration program that's quite tough, so it's not easy to get in. Testing is perfectly logical. We want NEW people to be BETTER, even BETTER than ourselves: this is WHY the test is so "hard", and this is why the argument "even Australians can't answer these questions' is totally idiotic. It's the WHOLE IDEA!!!
Why did this test happening now and not before. People had personal problems in their country, thats why they came here. People who came here does not know english,; so which one do they have to learn, english or the test.
Emphasis should be on living as and with australians.respecting and absorbing the culture and the need to live and understand the full meaning of democracy.
